Running an Efficient Transportation Fleet

H-E-B runs an efficient transportation fleet that carries goods to you across Texas. We closely monitor our company’s transportation fuel usage as a founding member of the  Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership.

It’s no secret that cars pollute the air, and our business requires that we haul products to your local H-E-B. So we owe it to our customers to do this in a responsible way. That’s why over 10 years ago, H-E-B joined 14 other founding partners in the  EPA SmartWay Transport program to help develop, launch and champion a commitment to freight sustainability practices. What this means to you is that H-E-B is held accountable to improving freight transportation efficiency. We work with the EPA to measure and benchmark our operations.

Over the last decade, H-E-B successfully improved the fuel economy of our fleet by 41% by continuing to implement new technologies available to custom fit our loads and the Texas terrain. This has resulted in 830k gallons of diesel fuel reduced each year and we’ve saved 8,450 tons of carbon dioxide each year. This helps protect the environment and the quality of air that we breathe.
