Installing Solar

H-E-B has over 62 rooftop solar panel systems in place – 55 store and 7 facility installments. This robust network helps to diversify our overall energy sources and reduce our reliance on only non-renewable resources. Our goal is to continue to grow this network by installing an additional 50 systems by 2025.

One of the many reasons Texans love this state is our abundance of sunshine year-round, which works to our benefit when it comes to solar energy. We’ve had solar panels in place since 2015 and completed our largest installation last year with over 10,700 panels at the Super Regional Retail Support Center in San Antonio. Now we’re building a similar one in Houston!

Solar panels work by absorbing the naturally occurring energy in sunlight, which in turn creates an electrical charge inside the panel cells and causes electricity to flow.
